Background Information:
Kate is a fully qualified Art Psychotherapist. She is registered with the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Kate has over eleven years’ experience of working with adults, adolescents and children in NHS mental health services, including inpatient units, forensic settings and specialist services.
She has provided Art Psychotherapy to clients of varying diagnoses and challenging behaviours including psychosis, personality disorders, self-harm, historical abuse and neglect and anger issues.
Within her sessions, Kate aims to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore and reflect on their inner world. Together client and therapist use the art made in sessions as a way to make sense of the clients past and present experiences, to improve their personal and emotional wellbeing and understand their sense of identity.
Kate works non-directionally and uses a variety of ways in an attempt to engage patients, including working on images alongside them. Art Psychotherapy sessions are a shared and equal experience between Kate and the client.
Kate’s approach to sessions is psychodynamic. She is particularly interested in conscious and unconscious processes and the impact they have not just on a clients’ identity, behaviour and attitude, but also the effect this has on their own interpersonal relations.
